Oliver Queen is trading in his bow for hockey sticks as Stephen Amell joins the next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film as Casey Jones.
The social media darling and Arrow star had posted cryptic messages earlier this year regarding possible feature film roles, but they remained up for speculation until Variety reported the TMNT2 news on Tuesday.
Amell will join returning stars Will Arnett and Megan Fox for the action sequel. No other details for plotting or production schedules were announced.
The Ninja Turtles reboot, produced by Michael Bay, lead Paramount and Platinum Dunes to a $191 million domestic box office last year, leading the studio to mark 2016 for a sequel before specifics were even made.
Amell’s role as Casey Jones will mark his tentpole debut after changing the television landscape as Oliver Queen in The CW’s Arrow. If the plot stick with past TMNT stories, Jones is a rough-and-ready ally to the Ninja Turtles, known for his crude one-liners, hockey mask, and array of stick-based weapons. He was originally played by Elias Koteas in the 1990 New Line film.
Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec will be penning the script with Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form returning to produce.
