Disney confirmed Thursday at their annual shareholder’s meeting that Frozen 2 will be on the upcoming slate of animated films from the Mouse House.
The announcement comes as little surprise as the original title has raked in nearly $1.3 billion in box office receipts and drives massive licensing revenue among toys, costumes, and more. The song ‘Let It Go’ became a meme of its own, eventually winning Best Original Song at the 86th Academy Awards.
The directors for the original Best Animated Feature, Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, are set to return. Peter Del Vecho will produce from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
“We enjoyed making ‘Frozen Fever’ so much and being back in that world with those characters,” said John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios. “Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have come up with a great idea for a sequel and you will be hearing a lot more about it and we’re taking you back to Arendelle. We are so excited about that.”
No release date or production schedule have been announced.
