Warner Bros. and DC Comics have found their Kara Zor-El in the Glee and Whiplash star.
The upcoming Supergirl series, which received a heavy commitment from CBS, has been one of the most anticipated shows of the upcoming television season. Casting had been highly speculative, with Benoist edging out Vampire Diaries star Claie Holt and others, according the The Hollywood Reporter.
Supergirl will focus on Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, as she struggles to deal with the scope of her superpowers in modern-day Earth. With it, all five major networks may have a superhero show on television next season.
The show will be toplined by Flash and Arrow creator Greg Berlanti and No Ordinary Family alum Ali Adler. No word has been revealed on whether Supergirl will fit into the current DC universe headlined by Arrow and The Flash.
