DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures have signed Michelle MacLaren to direct their upcoming Wonder Woman feature film.
After weeks of speculation, MacLaren landed on top of the shortlist recently according to reports from Deadline. MacLaren is a seasoned television veteran behind the camera, having directed episodes of blockbuster series like Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Wonder Woman will mark her feature film debut.
Since their announcement of the upcoming DC slate, the tentpole studio had been under pressure from fans to hire a female director. Wonder Woman marks the first major superhero production to have a female lead with Gal Gadot starring. Marvel followed the announcement with their own reveal of an upcoming Captain Marvel film.
Wonder Woman will bow June 23, 2017. The character will appear, however, in other DC Comics films. Her costume was revealed for 2016’s Batman V. Superman during this year’s San Diego Comic Con. The writing team for Wonder Woman has been kept under tight wraps. It will be produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, Debbie Snyder, and Richard Suckle.
