Video-On-Demand service Feeln will launch a remake of the popular 1980’s cartoon Rainbow Brite this November, the company announced via an online trailer.
The new series will feature Emily Osment as the voice of Rainbow Brite. Breakfast Club star Molly Ringwald will voice the villain, The Dark Princess.
The original Rainbow Brite series, which debuted through Hallmark in 1983, featured the colorful title character bringing color and peace to Rainbow Land along with the Color Kids and her horse Starlite. Despite an initial run of only 13 episodes, Rainbow Brite became one of the most recognized cartoon characters of the time with toys, books, and audio tapes selling worldwide.
“With Rainbow Brite, we believe we have created something that captures the essence of the original series – but with a vision that resonates today,” stated Iris Ichishita, Head of Original Entertainment for Feeln, in a press release. “We hope audiences will react with an ‘oh my bows!’ – just like us.”
The first episode, Cloudy With a Chance of Gloom, will premiere November 6, 2014 on Feeln.com.
