SyFy renewed futuristic sci-fi Defiance for a 13-episode third season on Thursday, along with freshman series Dominion.
The show, which takes place in a war-torn version of St. Louis in the future, has a tie in with an MMO game from Trion Worlds. The game recently went Free-to-Play.
Overall ratings for Defiance‘s second season were down slightly from the premiere year, according to TV By The Numbers, averaging 1.56 million viewers. However, it remains one of SyFy’s higher-budgeted shows and has garnered praise among critics and fans for standing out among a lack of quality science-fiction shows.
The show includes Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, and Jaimie Murray and focuses on the relationships between humans and alien newcomers after a galactic war reinvents the landscape of Earth. Syfy has not given farther details about returning cast members or a potential premiere date.
