Square-Enix kicked off the 2014 Tokyo Game Show with a new trailer for the long-awaited Final Fantasy XV.
The trailer, which runs almost three minutes, gives viewers in-game footage that mixes cutscenes with the game’s combat. It also showcases the styles of the game’s cast of characters.
As with most games in the Final Fantasy series, XV has been several years in the making with few details given about its development. The trailer’s combat scenes give the appearance of a more real-time and action-oriented combat than is traditional for the series. It will also return modern and science-fiction elements to the franchise, similar to those seen in the Playstation-era games.
Former director Tetsuya Nomura stepped away from this newest installment to focus on developing the Kingdom Hearts series, the third game of which is in progress. Since the departure, few details have emerged about the progression of XV.
Square-Enix will release a demo of the game next March.
