Website The Verge is reporting that sources within the company are confirming a showcase of their next operating system on September 30th. Originally codenamed “Threshold,” the new operating system is said to have several key UI and feature changes from previous versions.
The press event may not rename the newest version of the world’s most popular operating system but instead focus on features, new technology, and the look of Windows 9. A “mini Smart Menu,” and virtual desktop support are rumored to be among the selling points.
Despite the growing brand-recognition of competitor Apple, Microsoft still owns the vast majority of operating systems among users. According to tracker Net Market Share, Windows accounts for roughly 90% of the overall market of operating systems.
