After teasing with online videos and marketing, BioWare has revealed their next major intellectual property, titled Shadow Realms.
Launching a game website to coincide with their Gamescom conference, BioWare has revealed the new title to be a PC-oriented multiplayer online action-RPG with a modern setting. After creating major titles like Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic, the game studio hopes to create a never-ending RPG experience with their new game.
The official website has several press releases from those involved with the game explaining their visions of the new property.
“It is a game that finally fulfills that fantasy of a never-ending RPG where the players meet up regularly to keep their epic adventures going for as long as they want. All the enemies, traps and challenges are squarely in the hands of another player, who controls them just like a Dungeon Master,” stated Creative Director James Ohlen.
The game will focus on Co-Op 4v1 Shadowlord PVP. Four Heroes will choose their classes and fight against a single Shadowlord player, who acts a “Dungeon master” of sorts for the environment. Tying into this will be a storyline involving the nations of Embra, which will release episodic updates periodically throughout the game’s cycle.
Shadow Realms also marks the first major announcement from BioWare since the resignation of longtime creative head Casey Hudson. It is also their first game to be announced since the sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition.
While no release date has been given, interested players can sign up for Alpha Testing via the Shadow Realms website with an EA Origin account.
