Gearbox Software announced a new game property this week with the unveiling of Battleborn.
The makers of the popular Borderlands series hope to combine the wave-killing and leveling systems often associated with battle arena games like League of Legends and place them into a first-person shooter environment.
Battleborn will release updates throughout this month in the Game Informer magazine and websites. The August issue cover story will discuss a playtest from the developer’s offices in Plano, Texas.
The game looks to revisit the bright colors and cartoonish presence Gearbox is known for in the Borderlands series. Players will fight each other with a variety of heroes, from space marines to elven huntresses. A cooperative element is also in the works, but few details have been released.
Battleborn will be published by 2K and released for XBox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
